Rage 4.3-Inch All Terrain Motorcycle GPS Review

The Rage 4.3 inch motorcycle GPS navigation system is a new addition to the roster of portable navigation devices that offer you the same guidance features of most conventional GPS systems at a more affordable price. Fairly new to the market, the Rage has a 4.3 inch wide viewing angle LCD touchscreen that offers its users a full image detail of their root. It has a rear main control button interface that allows you to switch between various viewing modes with just a touch of your fingers. Its main mounting cradle securely fastens the GPS system into its proper place and also has a built in locking screw that holds it inside its mount without having to worry of dropping it when you encounter unfavorable road conditions.

Its main assembly is made from ABS plastic materials that securely seals its main components from dust and moisture which also includes its built in Lithium-Ion battery. Its protective casing is resilient from shock and cracking along with repelling oil based compounds such as gasoline and other corrosive elements along with the damaging effects of sunlight such as ultra violet rays. The design of its main mounting cradle has been well thought of based upon its design. It has a visor on its upper portion that protects its LCD screen from the direct glare of sunlight, which also functions as a partial cover for moisture such as rain. The main mounting cradle itself has an integrated charging port which directly comes into contact with the main GPS unit’s charging leads when it is inserted into the cradle.

One perk that the manufacturers have included is the way the how the main mounting base of the Rage GPS system can be used for both cars and motorcycles. Its mounting cradle has a detachable base in which you can either replace the windshield suction cups with a motorcycle handle bar mount that comes with the unit. This is considered as a good way on part of the manufacturers to address the need for most people who want to attach their GPS system on their motorcycles as not requiring them to purchase motorcycle GPS mount to allow them to do so.

As for its internal storage, the Rage has 4 gigabytes of built in memory, which is large enough to store several formats of maps for your navigational needs. If in some cases that you may find the need for a larger memory, you can conveniently insert an expandable memory card into its slot, which enable you to extend your GPS memory up to 16 gigabyte. For some people, having a large memory capacity besides its built in flash capacity may not be much of a necessity, but with regard to this GPS system, a larger memory capacity could be adequate enough to store your multi media files as the Rage can also play mp3’s and several formats of video files. Its Bluetooth capabilities are also very useful when you suddenly have the urgency to answer an incoming call to which it is a very convenient way of keeping your eyes on the road and your hands on the wheel or in some cases, the handle bar.

Design:

As far as the design is concerned, this GPS system has a subtle ruggedness when it comes to its color and casing. A two-toned color combination consisting mainly of a black outer shell covering accompanied by its orange colored main control buttons give it a sporty look. Living up to its weather proof capabilities, this GPS system was adequately made for motorcycle riding instead of using it inside a car since it is more suited to serve its purpose this way and for a fact that its main mounting cradle has an integrated charging port which directly connects to the main unit’s backside is another hint that this was definitely designed for outdoor use. The way that it is securely fastened by a locking screw means it is completely safe from being thrown out from its mounting cradle for any reason that you might encounter rough road conditions.

Features:

A durable weather proof casing that also repels oils, corrosive compounds and even the harsh effect of ultra violet rays. Watertight ABS plastic casing that seals all major electronic component, including its Lithium-Ion battery from moisture and dust. A versatile mounting system that enables you to attach its main mounting cradle to your cars windshield or even on your motorcycle’s handlebars without the need to buy optional additional accessories for that particular purpose. Well secured mounting cradle that locks your unit into place avoiding the chances of your GPS system to pop out from its place. The cradle can charge the unit from your car or motorcycle’s main batteries without the need for external charging cables. Built in 4 gigabyte flash memory storage expandable up to 16 gigabytes through the use of its memory card slot. Quite useful if you plan on storing multiple, high detailed navigational maps. Bluetooth capabilities with compatible devices to answer incoming phone calls from your phone without the need for you to stop just to open your phone, giving you more convenience with regard to navigating to your route.

LCD:

A 4.3 inch LCD screen is quite a necessity when it comes to GPS navigational systems since people need to clearly see and not everybody has a keen sense of acuity when it comes to distinguishing images considering that you have to keep an eye on the road every time. Although the Rage GPS navigation system’s LCD does not really have features such as IPS (in Plane Screen) viewing capabilities compared to other systems, it does have a fairly decent image display to offer, and since this GPS system can also play video files with higher frame rates, it can be as efficient as other LCD screens with high end features as well. Given the thought that its main mounting cradle has a built in screen visor that hides half of its screen from direct exposure to glaring sunlight, its viewing quality can be regarded as decent.

Final Thoughts:

For a retail price of $155, it is one of the most reasonably affordable GPS systems in the market today, granted that it does lack some high end features when it comes to its hardware and software, its still a very good entry level GPS system that can guide you to where you want to go. Its over all design and features are considered quite good considering that it can also function as a multi media player in which not all GPS systems are capable of. Another good feature that this GPS system has is its mounting system which you can easily switch from being a car mounted unit to a motorcycle mounted GPS system with just a quick adjustment to its mounting base. You may want to consider other GPS systems with more advanced navigational features that may give you the fullest advantage with regard to your navigational needs, but since most people use GPS systems for casual driving purposes, the Rage navigational system could be the one thing that you may just need on a daily basis.
