2016 Land Rover Defender

2016 Land Rover Defender - The Defender has been on the market for more than 60 years under a few different names, one of the longest production times on the market. However, due to new emissions and safety regulations the car ceased production at the end of 2014 and it will only be available on the market for another year. Land Rover announced that they are going to replace the Defender since the early 2011 with the DC100 concept, a car which kept a lot of the spirit of the original unchanged while offering better safety features and much more efficient engines. However, that car remained a concept nearly 4 years after it was released.

Well, not too long ago an official statement announced that the new 2016 Land Rover Defender is going to be launched by the end of 2016 while production should start in the late 2017 or early 2018. The base price for this future SUV is still unknown at this point but it will likely hover around $30,000 for a base model and up to $50,000 for a fully equipped one.

Engine wise most people are going to be excited by it because Land Rover will offer the next generation Defender with their state of the art Ingenium engines. The base is going to be a 2 liter turbocharged inline 4 that will offer anything between 180 and 240 horsepower and up to 250 lb-ft of torque. The option will be a 2 liter turbo-diesel with up to 200 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque, the expected volume engine for the model. There is also going to be more powerful version offering a 3 liter supercharged V6 from Jaguar with up to 320 horsepower and more than 300 lb-ft of torque. All of these will be available with an 8 speed automatic and later down the road a possible 6 speed manual. All wheel drive is going to be a standard feature and so are going to be the lockable differentials and heavy duty shocks and springs.

The inside is currently unknown but if we had to take a guess at it, then Land Rover is very likely going to try their best in order to offer a comfortable yet easy to use interior with washable upholstery that will resist dirt with ease as well as commodities such as air conditioning and satellite navigation.

The exterior of the 2016 Land Rover Defender on the other hand has been said to use up to 70% of the design of the DC100 concept meaning it will be very similar. The only real differences are likely going to be the wheels and tires as well as the outside mounted spare wheel.
