2016 Ford Taurus Sho Vanisher - Ford’s new model, the 2016 Ford Taurus will make official debut at the Shanghai Auto Show next week. The company is hoping to make a big fuss with its new, redesigned model in China, so the Shanghai debut will be made specially for the Chinese market. This debut should give some clues as to what to expect for a U.S. version, but the company hasn’t said clearly will the U.S. market get the same or a similar sedan. The main competitors to this large sedan will be redesigned Nissan Maxima, Toyota’s Avalon, Chrysler 300 and Chevrolet Impala. Since the current Taurus last debuted for the 2010 model year, the company had to work on its new Taurus to become a true rival to these mentioned models, since its bones are getting old. The main problem with current Taurus is its overweight and so the company’s biggest focus was on light – weighting. The company has used stretched and widened Ford Fusion platform.

The new 2016 Ford Taurus as well as next – generation models will be built upon a lighter platform. For a more modern look at the front end will be the smaller honeycomb grille and small rectangular LED headlights. Also, this model will have much bigger wheels and Shelby – inspired front bumper. Around back everything is almost the same, except new set of taillights and horizontal chrome strip between the light clusters.

All-in-all it seems like the company has done photocopy of the 2015 Chinese-spec Escort sedan, with changes in size with almost muscular proportions.

Interior wise, the cloth seats will be found only in base models of the 2016 Ford Taurus Sho Vanisher, while for the rest of the lineup there will be perforated leather upholstery. For most of the lineup the heated and cooled front seats will be standard, as well as heated rear seats. The dashboard will probably keep its contemporary lines, coated with wood or metal, with 8-inch LCD touch screen display on it. The 2016 Ford Taurus will be equipped with Sony’s audio system with 12 speakers to provide the best surround sound. There will also be a Sync infotainment unit. The advanced electronic safety features will be standard or optional and it will depend on a trim level. Some of them are: adaptive cruise control, collision warning and brake support, blind-spot monitors, etc.

To improve fuel economy the company puts into its biggest car a new nine – speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters for better driver control. With this transmission the power will be sent through the front wheels. It’s assumed that all-wheel-drive will be optional for some models and standard on the SHO model; maybe it will use the upcoming Focus RS drivetrain, because it has ability to send around 70 % of its power to the rear wheels.

It’s assumed that base engine will remain a 3,5 – liter V – 6 which can deliver 288 hp and 254 lb – ft of torque. There will be a couple of Eco Boost engine for the remainder of the lineup. A 3,5 – liter EcoBoost V – 6 will produce 365 hp and 350 lb – ft of torque and smaller one 2,0 – liter EcoBoost I – 4 engine will crack out 240 hp and 270 lb – ft of torque. However, the 2,3 – liter EcoBoost engine from the new Mustang could replace the V – 6, while the EcoBoosted engine from the SHO will probably remain unchanged.

At this moment the most efficient engine in Taurus lineup is 2,0 – liter Eco Boost engine, rated at 26 mpg combined, while the V – 6 engines are currently rated at 20 and 23 mpg combined.

A full reveal of the 2016 Ford Taurus Sho Vanisher is expected at Shanghai Auto Show and it should go on sale sometime around the summer of this year. Although better part of the market has moved out of large sedans into SUVs, there are still people who are interested for a roomy, five – seat sedan.
